Last week I was having a look at my “load outs” in Far Cry 3. And I thought there were a few weapons that looked the same from a stats perspective or were dominated by better other weapons. I wanted to figure out if some weapons were better than other in absolute term.
In a previous post I described how I got the weapon stats by “pixel counting” bar charts on the Far Cry 3 iPhone app.

This post is a basic step-by-step of how to setup a Raspberry Pi as a web server. There is quite a few of those post out there but I wanted to put down what worked best for me.
Bear in mind that most commands have to be ran prefixed by sudo.

I bought Braid a while back and after listening to a few interviews and talks from its creator Jonathan Blow I decided to invest some time into actually playing it. I am now a few puzzles away from the end and I found the game really appealing really quickly. The graphics are pretty unique and I liked the “crayon” look. The music is also fantastic and I’ve listened to the soundtrack on Spotify over and over again.
But there are really two things I wanted to talk about.

Before the swapper I never really had much interest in indie games. I had watched Indie Game: The Movie which I really enjoyed but had not spent any time playing indie games, except from buying Super Meet Boy and playing it for about 10 min (this is by no means a reflection of the game quality).
After much hype on twitter about The Swapper I decided to give a descent attempt at understanding what the fuss was all about. So I bought the game and committed to finishing it.
I’ve now finished it and here’s what I thought of it.

I’ve never had as much fun with PHP since the day I stopped using it for building websites. There’s a lot of fun to get out of it as a general scripting language and here’s another example.
I wanted to get stats about Far Cry 3 weapons, so I decided to do a bit of reverse engineering. The game has an iPhone app that lets you do “load outs” displaying weapons and bar charts for each property (damage, range, accuracy, fire rate and mobility). All I needed to do was to calculate the length of each property bar in pixels.

I have been programming in PHP for some years but have recently re-discovered it as a great console-only-output tool. I wanted to put together a quick experiment parsing prices of Amazon and storing the result for later (although I will not go through any PHP code today).
As I found out, it’s really easy to set-up PHP on its own without the need for web servers and browsers.
So, here’s what to do for a bit of fun.

I’ve decided to upgrade my PC and by that I mean getting a brand new one. I had a Dell XPS 420 which served me extremely well for the past 5 years or so although I had upgraded the RAM and graphic card.
I started by looking into fully assembled PC but I wanted to be able to pick individual components, so I found the Yoyotech website which offers partially assembled PCs or “bundles” (motherboard, processor, memory). All in all, it wasn’t exactly what I wanted but also turned out to be quite expensive. The difference in price between Yoyotech and individual components of eBuyer (just on motherboard, processor and memory) was about the price of a solid state drive. So I decided to build it myself.
